The Country’s Biggest Household Solar Battery Scheme is in South Australia

It has only been a month since South Australia Liberal government had outlined a solar battery scheme that is planned to invest $100 million in state government subsidies. This is now confirmed, giving access to 4,000 South Australian households to home battery systems.

Liberal government of South Australia officially opened the biggest support scheme in the country for solar battery storage. This $200 million scheme in total, partly in grants and in loans, will be provided by Clean Energy Finance Corporation (CEFC) as promised by newly elected Marshal government.

The scheme is offered on a scaled basis, of $600/kWh for concession card holders and $500/kWh for others. Each household can be granted up to $6,000 for a 10kWh battery, and $3,000 for a 5kWh battery. The grant is expected to reduce the price of battery system immediately depending on the prices of battery as the market takes hold.

As predicted by Australian Energy Market Operator, South Australia will be at 100% renewables by 2025 with the help of the initiated solar and battery programs. As we are  aware, South Australia is leading the country and possible the world in terms of wind and solar energy systems, with more than 50 per cent of its generation coming from these resources. The state continuously boasts the installation in rooftop solar, with more than 930MW that will expectedly push down the grid demand further.

If this initiative will result to positive impacts to South Australian households, other customers from other Australian states may demand the same solar and battery storage scheme in their place which can be a big help to totally go solar and expand their current solar system.

There has never been a better time to invest in solar and battery for South Australians. With the help of Federal government and CEFC, renewable energy systems become more accessible and affordable to households. In the coming years, coal and other finite energy sources will be the things of the past.
